The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Thursday upheld a law that sharply limits the collective-bargaining rights of employees at public colleges and other state agencies, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.
The law, designated as Act 10, passed in 2011 amid bitter protests. It prohibits the state from deducting union dues from employees’ paychecks and requires unions, including faculty unions, to renew their certification annually. Many public-safety workers are exempted from the certification provision, an aspect of the law that was upheld in federal court last year.
