Welcome from your Membership & Organizing VP

Greetings Colleagues,

Welcome to another academic year here at PSU where our union—PSU-AAUP (members, member-volunteers, member-leaders, Collective Bargaining Team and Executive Council) work every day to promote the interests of all of our colleagues, with the ultimate goal of exemplary service for PSU students. Thanks to all who stand together to make our collective voice on campus strong.

One way that you can help to make our voice on campus stronger is to meet fellow members at PSU-AAUP events this year. We offer a variety of events that we hope will spark an interest to meet others, volunteer or run for a position on the Executive Council to help shape the future PSU-AAUP. If that appeals to you, we hope to see you at our general membership lunches where you can hear with specificity what our union is doing on campus this year; or one of our socials.  One social this fall is especially for new members so that they can meet colleagues and learn more about our union. Another social is for our LGBTQ colleagues to network. These and other social events planned this year are also simply fun opportunities to build solidarity!  In addition to our membership meetings and social events, Jennifer Ruth, PSU-AAUP VP for Academic Freedom and Grievances will host a discussion about academic freedom. Look to PSU-AAUP “Member News” for details about all PSU-AAUP events this year.

I know…work life and personal responsibilities keep us all busy, but, the stronger our union is, the better we can support the work we do on campus and at home.

Some recent “wins” (this list is certainly not exhaustive) are:

  • Annual COLAs
  • Donated Sick Leave Bank
  • Job stability
  • Professional Development funding

These and other benefits are just a few of the many efforts that PSU–AAUP fought for and won that improve our lives.  Get involved in small or big ways! Your voice is important.

You can also reach out to me personally, if you have any questions about how to get more involved. Thanks and I look forward to seeing you at one, or more, of the events detailed below.  Take a minute to RSVP if you can so that we can have adequate food and drink.

In solidarity,

Jennifer Kerns
