All staff in the University of Akron's Multicultural Center and the UA Press were among those notified Tuesday that they had lost their jobs.
Layoffs continued at the university for a second day as 161 employees are being let go. Several employees in the registration/registrar's office and information technology were also notified that their jobs were eliminated.
Thomas Bacher, director of the UA Press, said in an email that he will remain until January 28, 2016 because of his contract, but the other two staff members were laid off.
"We have essentially been shut down," he wrote. "Another blow against culture by a short-sighted administration. It's sad that the university values beans over brains."
Tuesday's moves followed Monday's actions, which included laying off the staff of EJ Thomas Hall, which closed its ticket office and left productions in limbo.
