Tentative Contract Would Give Minnesota State U. Faculty a Retroactive Raise
Faculty-union representatives for Minnesota’s seven state universities have reached a tentative contract agreement with administrators of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. The two-year agreement, subject to a ratification vote, would give all faculty members a 2.2-percent raise, retroactive to this past fall. It also marks the first time the contract would include adjunct and full-time probationary faculty, said Nancy Black, president of the Inter Faculty Organization, the collective-bargaining representative for faculty at the seven universities.
“It is a really big deal, because they are struggling in this economy — just like the majority of Minnesotans,” said Nancy Black, of the faculty-union group. “We really want to see this money so we can provide the quality education students need.” In a press release, MnSCU Chancellor Steven Rosenstone (above) said he believes a completed agreement is essential to recruit and retain high-quality faculty.
