Professor Amanda Byron forwarded me this petition and suggested we send it to membership. I couldn't agree more. I was at NYU last week talking to people about the controversy surrounding their President's criticism of a graduate student who spoke out in favor of the Boycott-Divest-Sanction Movement (campaign intended to hold Israel accountable for its treatment of Palestinians). When universities condemn graduate students for perfectly civil speech in order to appease external forces, we are in a bad place.
