State Treasurer Steiner letter to the Cudd administration

February 27, 2025 / PSU-AAUP

Administration’s final offer in our contract campaign is due tonight by 11:59 pm. Stand with our colleagues to help build the strike vote necessary to win respect for shared governance and our union contract and protections from the next two years of planned layoffs by signing your strike pledge today

After over 170 hours of bargaining -including 70+ hours of mediation and declaring impasse, the Cudd administration is pushing us ever closer to the first strike in PSU history.

Simultaneously, politicians across Portland and across Oregon are beginning to stand with us to win the contract and conditions faculty, academic professionals, and students deserve. State Treasurer Elizabeth Steiner has penned a letter to the Cudd administration and pledged to walk our picket line. City Councilors Mitch Green, Tiffany Koyama Lane, and Angelita Morillo have written letters to the Cudd administration as well.

State Treasurer Elizabeth Steiner writes in her letter to the Cudd administration:

Dear PSU Administrators,

I am writing to share my concern about the current contract negotiations between Portland State University and the members of the Portland State University Chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). I stand behind the members of the PSU-AAUP and urge the administration to collaborate with PSU-AAUP represented workers and take immediate action to settle a fair contract.

Faculty and staff are vital to the success of this institution, and their efforts directly impact the quality of education and support that PSU provides. Layoffs must be stopped, and any decisions regarding the future of our academic community should prioritize fair wages and working conditions that support the success of faculty, staff, and students alike.

I urge the administration to negotiate in good faith, resolve the contract dispute, and invest in the people who make PSU what it is today.
