SB 214 bill (post doctoral scholar) process being influenced by SB 559 and SB 560

April 13, 2017 / PSU-AAUP

In face of the deadline for all active bills to leave committee, the Senate Committee on Workforce did not approve the -2 amendment to SB 214 (post-doctoral scholar bill) prior to the bill being referred out of committee because the -2 amendment came out after the date the committee had the hearing on the bill, and there was no more time to have an additional hearing.

Even though SB 214 is a minor tweak to law, and all stakeholders have reached agreement on the -2 amendments, it deals with PERS and all PERS bills that are active have been referred to Ways and Means.

All stakeholders that were party to the negotiations remain committed to the bill, and that if the bill is going to move it will have the -2 amendments. Its not at all clear, however, what Ways and Means will do with it in light of SB 559 and SB 560 and the expected "grand bargain."

I will advise as I learn more.
