Governor Brown signed the bill on July 12, 2017. Senate Bill 214 is now law and will take effect January 1.
We previously reported that the Executive Council endorsed SB 214-1, and that PSU-AAUP participated in negotiating changes to SB 214 to arrive at the -1 amendments, and the -2 amendments.
PSU-AAUP met with administration on February 22, 2017 about how to address SB 214 if the bill became law. The University did not commit at that time to implementing SB 214, but advised that they would consider implementation after the bill's enactment.
Citing the support that has existed in the faculty senate and research administration for the post-doctoral position since 2014, and our support and participation in negotiating over the legislation itself, PSU-AAUP made a formal request of PSU today to make the decision to implement SB 214 and to commence the scheduling of bargaining with PSU-AAUP.
We are awaiting a response.
