Portland State University (PSU) will increase student tuition by about 4 percent starting this fall.
Students protested at a PSU board meeting Thursday afternoon, where members voted 10 to 2 in favor of the tuition increase, which will cost in-state students more than $300 per year.
PSU sophomore Kate Stubblefield says higher tuition might affect her ability to buy groceries and textbooks, but she’s concerned that it might have more serious consequences for her classmates.
“I’m an in-state student, so I’m getting much less of the brunt than an out-of-state or graduate student would,” said Stubblefield.
