Bargaining has been put on hold for a second time. Many of the bargaining team members have been placed on furlough, resulting in problems scheduling and prioritizing bargaining for the next two months. We have agreed to pause bargaining at the main table until August with a few key conditions:
- The bargaining team is committed to work towards completing the contract before the start of the Fall 2020 term and are hopeful that when we return, administration will share this goal. When we return, we will meet at the main table once a week for 4 hours for the first two weeks of August. Then, in the second two weeks of August we will meet twice a week. If need be, we will schedule even more sessions or even longer days to complete bargaining in September.
- Small groups will meet regularly in June and July to come to agreement on items already presented at the main table. We want to come back in August with the details on AP Placement, AP Advancement, Caregiver Leave, and Faculty Workload.
- We recommended to the administration that we create a shared timeline for items to hold both sides accountable to getting things done over the summer.
Once we have dates for bargaining in August and September we will share them with you. It is so impactful to have observers listening in on the Zoom calls and we hope to have made progress on the key issues before then.
