Academic Freedom Recap: Anti-harassment and Academic Freedom Abuses

Next to budget woes, academic freedom was a major focus for PSU-AAUP during winter term. In addition to the anti-harassment language and forthcoming guide we successfully bargained with Administration (tentative agreement reached in February), we also hosted events investigating academic freedom. We filed a division A grievance on behalf of members experiencing or with the potential to experience harassment for their own appropriate expressions of academic freedom; reiterated our stance that academic freedom should not be abused and used as a guise to harm, intimidate, harass, and bully; and publicly condemned Professor Bruce Gilley’s “procolonialism” platform.
