Research Bridge Fund

November 10, 2025 / PSU-AAUP

A new Research Bridge Fund was also created during the most recent PSU‑AAUP contract negotiations to strengthen stability for externally funded researchers, with an annual pool and ongoing replenishment committed in the agreement. The fund, up to $200,000 annually, provides short‑term salary and fringe support to maintain research continuity during gaps between external awards for non‑tenure‑track researchers, helping retain personnel and sustain active projects through brief funding lapses.

What it covers:

The program targets externally funded researchers (primarily non‑tenure‑track) facing a temporary lapse or transition in grants where a pause would jeopardize progress, staffing, or deliverables while renewed or new funding is pending. Awards offer temporary coverage of salary and benefits necessary to bridge the gap and keep essential work moving until external funds are secured, with applications reviewed by Research & Graduate Studies on a competitive basis.

How to apply:

The fund runs on recurring application windows; PSU’s internal funding calendar typically follows quarterly cycles (e.g., late July, October, January, April), and the Research Bridge Fund page posts the current timeline each cycle. Complete the application described on the Research Bridge Fund site, outlining project context, the funding gap, and how support will preserve continuity.
