On May 16th, the PSU-AAUP Executive Council released a statement and demand for action regarding the Program Review and Reduction Process that is now entering Phase III. In this statement the Executive Council calls for this process to be turned over immediately to the Faculty Senate for the proper analysis, review, and input through shared governance.
Five units on campus have been issued vague threats (budget cuts? program mergers? retrenchment?) if they do not meet a “fuzzy” standard set by the Provost.
The affected units are:
- Applied Linguistics
- Conflict Resolution
- Educational Leadership & Policy
- International & Global Studies
- Theater Arts
On Wednesday, June 1st at 4PM, PSU-AAUP will host a listening session for the members of those 5 units to hear their questions and concerns, explain the process and pathways available, and learn how we can best support them. Chapter leadership has been in close communication with Faculty Senate leadership throughout and will continue to provide support.
