Before coming to PSU 12 years ago, I worked in a series of jobs with abusive supervisors. In one job, my (male) supervisor was crawling under my desk "fixing the printer" while I was at my desk attending a phone conference call. In another job, my supervisor would yell at me in public, and would also often storm into my office, yell, and then leave and slam the door behind her. When I went to HR asking about my rights as an employee, their response was, "You have no rights." Needless to say, this drove me to PSU-AAUP as soon as I became eligible to join. I vowed never to be mistreated by a supervisor again, and I know that, working together as a union, we have not only recourse for supervisory mistreatment, but also the solidarity of all our fellow members. Together we are strong!
