From Disarm PSU Now: The Portland State University community is organizing a demonstration outside the Campus Public Safety Office on Friday, June 12, 2020 from 11:00am-12:30pm to call for the immediate and permanent disarmament of campus safety officers. The community will gather at the PSU Urban Plaza (1800 SW 6th Ave) then march to CPSO (633 S. Montgomery St). Representatives from the PSU Community including Mr. Jason Washington's family will share in the call to Disarm PSU.
We also call on PSU to re-envision the meaning of community safety, including: removing CPSO from the University's CARE Team and redirecting CPSO resources to support alternatives to policing; extending furloughs to CPSO; and discontinuing the policing of houseless people on campus.
