The Oregon AFL-CIO and Oregon Women Labor Leaders (OWLL) are heading up a campaign to protest the gender wage gap at Fred Meyer. On average men make $3.70/hour more than women at Fred Meyer. In large part this derives from the way management sorts workers who have participated in the same hiring process into two different job categories with very different pay scales.
We have an upcoming action in support of the campaign. Next Wednesday, July 24, we’ll gather outside the Fred Meyer store at 100 NW 20th Place in Portland at 5:30pm. We’ll get signatures for our petition calling on Fred Meyer to Fix the Gap, and a delegation will enter the store to talk with the store manager. Join us and support the workers at Fred Meyer!
