On Friday June 6th, David Huerta, vice president of the California Federation of Labor Unions and president of SEIU California and SEIU-United Service Workers West, was assaulted and arrested while nonviolently advocating for immigrant workers in Los Angeles as militarized ICE raids were held at workplaces in the city.
Immigrant workers are essential to our society. Immigrant rights and working people’s rights are intrinsically linked. AAUP National demands the immediate release of David Huerta and the immediate cessation of these violent and reckless ICE raids that are terrorizing hardworking families.
This Monday, PSU-AAUP members and retirees were part of a national Day of Action to demand Huerta’s release. Hours before the action Huerta was released but still faces a felony charge that could carry up to six years in prison for ostensibly being a legal observer at a rally.
