We know that many of our PSU-AAUP members are caregivers and are struggling this academic year, especially as our local K-12 students continue to learn remotely. What a challenge! Of all the difficulties associated with 2020, becoming homeschool teachers while also doing our work for PSU perhaps takes the cake.
- If you haven’t already, we encourage you to use the 80 hours of COVID leave that will expire at the end of the 2020 calendar year.
- You might also consider tapping in to your own leave to reduce your workload in order to manage these caregiving responsibilities. Please contact your supervisor and leaves@pdx.edu re: what is available to you.
- We also encourage you to request a flexible work schedule from your supervisor. If your supervisor is not accommodating of your request, please reach out to AAUP and we will try to help.
If you haven’t opted out of the PSU-AAUP Donated Sick Leave Bank, you are eligible to access it to cover leave related to caregiving duties. Please click here to submit a donation request.
Finally, we plan to ask for more COVID-related resources from the University with a particular target towards our caregiving members. Please stay tuned. We will update you as things progress.
