Did you know that working for PSU might help you eliminate your student loan debt? I certainly did not know this! Buried in an email from Human Resources dated July 17, 2018 (that I almost did not open) was information that PSU is a “qualifying employer” for the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, a brief description of the program, and a link to investigate further. That is right…! Working for PSU is public service, according to PSU Human Resources and the federal government. PSU employees who have made at least 120 payments may be eligible to eliminate the remaining balance on eligible federal student loans!
As one of the millions of Americans significantly impacted by debt acquired due to the pursuit of higher education, I was eager to learn more about this program. I have since sent in my application and await a response. If indeed I do qualify, this program will make a monumental difference to my economic life. Since I almost did not open this message and some of you in fact may have not, I feel compelled to share this opportunity with my PSU-AAUP colleagues.
