Bargaining Update

November 25, 2019 / Heather Nahmias

Last Friday, November 22, we bargained all day with PSU management. This was our eleventh full day of bargaining.

                          More info and RSVP here.

We made progress on these issues.

  • Contract Extension
AAUP and PSU signed a contract extension to keep our current contract active as we continue to negotiate the next contract.

  • Academic Professionals - New Job Families, Levels, and Promotion Tracks
We are continuing to make progress on how APs will update their job descriptions, be placed into new job families, and what the appeals process will look like. There is still a lot to do but we are starting to see things come together. (Read more).

  • General Value Framework for Economic Bargaining
We presented to PSU three values that underlie all the economic subjects at the bargaining table and which we think should guide economic decision making and bargaining: 1) High quality education, 2) Equity, 3) Stewardship.

  • AAUP Presented a List of Economic Topics
This list will guide us as we continue negotiating issues important to faculty and staff at PSU.

  • Tentative Agreement on Principal Investigator (PI) Eligibility Policy
AAUP and PSU previously reached a tentative agreement on a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on how to implement a new Principal Investigator (PI) Eligibility Policy in the Office of Research and Graduate Studies (Read joint communication from AAUP and PSU administration). On November 22 we agreed to ground rules that will allow this MOU be reviewed by the Executive Council and sent to all members for ratification, after which PSU would be able to implement this policy without waiting until a new Collective Bargaining Agreement is completed.
