On September 28 we reported that the CIP code validation process was about to begin and the deadline was October 13. As of October 13 approximately 218 faculty members had not yet validated their CIP code. We can not proceed on the project until all CIP codes have been validated. The CIP Code validation deadline has been extended until October 27. If you have not yet validated your CIP code, please find the email from HR with the link to your CIP code record and do so immediately.
FAQs:
What is a CIP code?
The CIP code is a taxonomy that defines instructional programs (CIP = Classification of Instructional Programs). It is used for a variety of reasons in higher education. In this case, we are using it to compare faculty salaries at PSU against the external market, based on discipline as defined by the CIP code. This information will be used to identify faculty based on their discipline, so we can compare their salaries to the appropriate market.
How should I determine my CIP code?
The CIP/discipline code should match the discipline in which you are primarily teaching or conducting research when not serving as an academic chair. In most cases, that will reflect your formal academic training and degrees, but not in all cases. Please note that this may not be a perfect match but should be the one that in your opinion is the best match with your current primary activity (teaching or research).
