For many members, childcare is a significant expense, and lengthy waiting lists make PSU’s on-campus childcare options largely inaccessible. In this context, Multnomah County Preschool for All has been a welcome development. Unfortunately, in June, Governor Kotek used outdated data to critique the functioning of the program. After over 38,000 letters to Governor Kotek, legislation to end Preschool for All died. Despite that initial win, a continued push from Statehouse policymakers has caused Multnomah County to pay a marketing firm $238,000 to survey residents about Preschool for All.
As PSU administration hasn’t been willing to negotiate the affordable, accessible childcare our families deserve, we’re encouraging members to take this survey and recommend no cuts to Preschool for All.
