On January 31st, PSU-AAUP members joined over 38 labor unions and 5,000 union siblings rallying on the South Waterfront against ICE's extrajudicial kidnappings. This heartening, multigenerational display of community and solidarity was met with tear gas in contravention of Portland law.
In the days that have followed, nearly 50 unions and labor organizations have signed onto an open letter to Mayor Wilson and District Attorney Vasquez to enforce Portland's detention facility ordinance and prosecute federal officers for this unlawful use of force. In order to keep pressure on Mayor Wilson and DA Vasquez, unions from across Portland are turning out for a 2/20 rally and march from the Multnomah County Courthouse to Portland City Hall.
