Governor Kotek’s staff has let us know that a decision on Mary King’s potential appointment to the Board of Trustees as Finance and Administration chair will happen in early September. Despite some initial reports to the contrary, we’ve also learned Sheryl Manning, the loudest BoT proponent of cuts to mission-critical faculty and staff, is seeking reappointment to be Finance and Administration chair. This four-year appointment will shape whether or not there are deep cuts or investments in our working conditions between this September and 2029. With funding gaps and turmoil at the federal level, it is more important than ever to strengthen and preserve quality education for our 20,000 students and not go backwards with layoffs.
Let’s stop future cuts before they start. Send your personalized letter here (there’s a template to help with drafting) and set a calendar reminder to send another one on September 1st.
