Oregon Governor Tina Kotek has requested a substantive donation from AFT National toward her reelection, which would be funded by AFT member resources.
This request comes as AFT-represented workers across Oregon face the most severe higher education funding crisis in memory, marked by mass layoffs at Portland State University and the University of Oregon, and the Governor’s continued refusal to intervene, despite holding over $1 billion in the Education Stability Fund.
We are asking you to sign this letter to AFT President Randi Weingarten, urging Randi to deny Governor Kotek’s request. At minimum, we demand that any financial support for her campaign be conditioned on a signed commitment from the Governor to secure sufficient funding to reverse Oregon’s higher education crisis. A substantive contribution without decisive action would be seen as an endorsement of an anti-worker agenda that does not value AFT members.
