All programs slated for reductions in Cudd’s cuts have responded resoundingly to the preliminary Article 22 comment period with responses countering the layoffs.

“The units affected by the President’s March 9 notice have had difficulty responding within the first 30-day comment period because they were not provided the kind of structured, unit-level rationale and supporting documentation that Article 22.3(e) contemplates. That problem is further complicated by the University’s conflation of the Article 22 retrenchment process with PIVOT and with general education reform. Some of the programs that were identified for potential reduction received positive or “sustain” designations under the PIVOT process. Other units reasonably anticipate growth due to the plan to shift general education courses to departments. Without the full EAU-type documentation, the University has not done the necessary work to evaluate how the elimination or reduction of programs will impact each unit’s ability to deliver their programs and contribute to the institution’s core functions and mission.”
